Job summary

Lever, Inc. in Portugal is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Data Search to design and build large-scale creator search systems spanning data pipelines, embeddings, ranking and low-latency serving.

You will own end-to-end delivery, collaborating with data, product, engineering, customers, and leadership in a fast, async-first environment. Expect a modern stack with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, AWS/GCP, and vector search technologies.

Qualifications

• Proven experience building large-scale data, backend, or search-oriented products where latency, reliability, and cost matter.
• Ability to take products from concept to architecture, implementation, production release, measurement, and iteration.
• Experience designing distributed systems with focus on throughput, data flows, failure modes, and operational tradeoffs.
• Professional experience with LLM-powered or agentic features in production, including latency and cost considerations.
• Strong autonomous problem-solving and communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Improve creator discovery across hundreds of millions of profiles and media files by enhancing retrieval, ranking, and relevance.
• Design and build systems generating multimodal embeddings from images, video, text, and audio at scale.
• Develop new search capabilities and move ideas from experiments to reliable production with scalable costs.
• Own end-to-end technical problems: requirements, architecture, coding, release, and measurement.
• Address relevance and performance issues across data, query logic, retrieval, and models.
• Evaluate new models/technologies and identify where they improve the search experience.
• Collaborate with data/product teams to introduce new datasets and search capabilities.
• Contribute to system architecture and maintainable production services.
• Share findings and promote strong engineering practices.
