Elasticsearch B.V. is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team. You will lead vector similarity search enhancements, build fast and relevant vector database capabilities, and contribute to core search features.

This globally distributed team values autonomous, end-to-end ownership and collaborative problem solving. You will work with Java, contribute to developing new algorithms, and help triage issues with the community.

Qualificações

• Vector similarity and vector databases experience with HNSW, IVF, or similar algorithms on scale.
• Strong Java skills and knowledge of concurrency constructs and data structures.
• Autonomous, end-to-end project ownership including technical design.
• Excellent collaboration, including asynchronous work over internet.
• Experience with multiple data storage technologies and understanding of their trade-offs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; collaborative mindset.
• Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development and debugging.
• Ability to switch between projects and collaborate across teams.

Responsabilidades

• Lead initiatives to deliver an industry-leading vector database in Elasticsearch, with speed and relevance.
• Develop new search features, fix bugs, and design/implement algorithms or data structures.
• Work with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Serve as an expert on Elasticsearch vector similarity and guide others.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and PRs, including triage.
• Write idiomatic modern Java; Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java.
