Job summary

g2 Recruitment is seeking a Freelance Lead Electrical Engineer to support a high-profile data centre project in Portugal. The ideal candidate has strong commissioning experience across full lifecycle from installation to handover and has worked on hyperscale data centres.

You will lead electrical activities, manage subcontractors and site teams, coordinate with clients and commissioning teams, ensure safety and schedule, and contribute to commissioning plans.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Lead Electrical Engineer on data centre projects.
• Strong commissioning and startup experience in mission-critical environments.
• Knowledge of MV/LV systems, UPS, switchgear, generators and distribution.
• Experience with hyperscale or large-scale data centres.
• Availability to start in November.

I’m working with a leading data centre contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer with strong commissioning experience to support the delivery of a high-profile data centre project. This role requires someone who has worked across the full project lifecycle, from installation and energisation through to commissioning, testing, and handover on recognised hyperscale or large-scale data centre projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead electrical engineering activities across the full data centre project lifecycle.
• Manage electrical subcontractors, vendors, and site teams throughout the project.
• Oversee installation, energisation, commissioning, testing, and handover of critical electrical systems.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, commissioning teams, and project stakeholders.
• Ensure all electrical systems are delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications.
• Support the development and execution of commissioning plans and procedures.
• Proven experience as a Lead Electrical Engineer on data centre projects.
• Strong commissioning and startup experience within mission-critical environments.
• Experience working on recognised hyperscale or large-scale data centres.
• Knowledge of critical electrical infrastructure including MV/LV systems, UPS, switchgear, generators, and distribution systems.
• Exposure to CxA/commissioning authority processes.
• Previous experience working on hyperscale data centre developments.
• Experience supporting or leading integrated systems testing (IST).
• Exposure to CxA/commissioning authority processes.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams during commissioning and handover phases.
• Availability to start in November.
