Hexa Group is seeking a senior software leader to guide architecture and engineering across Java backend, Angular frontend and cloud components. You will influence design, drive scalable solutions and mentor teams in a global context.

The role requires coordinating with Product Owners, ensuring secure API integration and delivering high-quality software in a hybrid setup with two office days weekly in Portugal. Occasional international travel may be required.

Join a technology team supporting a business-critical payments solution within the banking sector. You will provide technical leadership across frontend, backend and batch components, contributing to application evolution, scalability and cloud modernization in a collaborative international environment. The role follows a hybrid model, with two days per week from the Porto or Lisbon office and occasional international travel.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Provide technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle and guide architecture and engineering decisions within an Agile team.
• Design scalable, maintainable and reusable solutions across Java backend, Angular frontend and cloud components.
• Define frontend architecture and guide the implementation of performant and accessible Angular interfaces.
• Lead the design, deployment and operation of cloud-native applications and microservices on Google Cloud Platform.
• Translate business requirements into sustainable technical and architectural solutions in collaboration with Product Owners and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Ensure secure API integration and reliable communication across frontend, backend and cloud services.
• Establish engineering standards, coordinate code reviews and promote software quality and maintainability.
• Analyze complex application issues and drive performance, scalability and user experience optimization.
• Coordinate release management and automation across hybrid and cloud environments, working with dependent technical teams.
• Mentor developers across different experience levels and promote knowledge sharing and continuous technical development.
• Evaluate relevant technologies and engineering practices that can support the ongoing evolution of the solution.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• More than 9 years of professional software development experience, including demonstrated technical leadership, architecture responsibilities or coordination of complex technical initiatives.
• Degree in Technology, Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong software architecture, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Professional working proficiency in English at B2/C1 level or above for daily international collaboration.
• Collaborative, responsible and solution-oriented approach, with a strong commitment to knowledge sharing and mentoring.
• Availability to work from the Porto or Lisbon office two days per week and to travel internationally for short periods when required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Java 17/21, object-oriented programming, design patterns, clean code and software architecture.
• Spring Boot 3.x, Spring Cloud and microservices architecture.
• Angular and frontend architecture.
• RESTful APIs, API-first practices and secure service integration.
• Google Cloud Platform, including GKE, Cloud Run and App Engine.
• Cloud SQL, Spanner and Cloud Storage.
• Maven and Git.
• CI/CD automation with Jenkins, XL Deploy and XL Release.
• SQL and relational database technologies, including Oracle.
• Agile delivery practices, including Scrum and Kanban, with Jira.
