OSP Designer (Onsite)
Job Description
Design Delivery
- Produce fiber network designs in accordance with approved standards, methodologies, client requirements, and fiber network design principles.
- Apply established design standards, methodologies, and procedures to ensure designs meet quality, safety, and compliance requirements.
- Prepare design documentation, drawings, Bills of Materials (BOM), and associated deliverables.
- Utilize design and Netmap systems effectively to support accurate design development and delivery.
- Take responsibility for the quality and timely completion of individual deliverables.
- Contribute to successful project delivery through accurate and compliant design outcomes.
Survey Drafting
- Conduct field and/or desktop surveys as required.
- Capture and document survey findings accurately.
- Produce drafting deliverables using approved design tools and systems.
- Incorporate survey outcomes into design solutions.
Client Engagement
- Work effectively with planning, construction, operations, and project teams.
- Escalate technical issues and risks where appropriate.
Records & QA Specialist
- When requested, perform the role of Records and QA Specialist comprising of:
- Maintain accurate network records and project documentation.
- Update design records and associated systems in a timely manner.
- Ensure data accuracy and completeness within designated databases and record systems.
- Complete required QA activities and updates.
- Address identified design defects and discrepancies.
- Ensure deliverables comply with established quality standards.
General
- Work effectively in an agile environment, adapting to shifting priorities, collaborating across functions and all levels of the organisation.
- Any reasonable task assigned by Host Manager/Employee, Design Team Leader or Client Operations Manager from time to time.
- Provide design support by managing call overflow and back up where required.
- Attend and constructively participate in team and company meetings.
- Escalate any issues to relevant Team Leader and Hosts on a regular and timely basis.
- Comply with all reasonable instructions outlined in the policies and procedures provided by UCG.
- Adhere to relevant MVP policies and procedures including Human Resources and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other reasonable duties and/or any additional task as requested by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, GIS, or related discipline.
- 0-3 years' experience in telecommunications, network design, utility infrastructure, engineering design, GIS, or a related field.
- Understanding of basic network design principles and engineering concepts.
- Knowledge of network materials and equipment specifications, with the ability to apply material standards and selection guidelines.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Experience working within established procedures, standards, and quality requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to complete assigned tasks accurately and within agreed timeframes.
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-To-Haves
- Experience in fibre network design.
- Experience using GIS or telecommunications design platforms.
- Knowledge of Chorus, Enable, Tuatahi, or UFF network standards.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or other telecommunications design systems.
- Exposure to New Zealand telecommunications networks and industry standards.
- Understanding of Health & Safety requirements within utility or telecommunications environments.
