OSP Network Designer
Job Description:
Design:
- Using the company’s chosen design software, create telecommunication infrastructure designs which provide for the following:
- Health and safety
- Cost effectiveness
- Client expectations and technical guidelines
- Relevant laws, regulations and standards
- Environmental considerations
- Aboriginal cultural considerations
- Heritage protection considerations
- Read technical specification documents to understand relevant telecommunications infrastructure and architecture.
- Liaise with relevant company contacts and teams to understand criteria and expectations for each design. When creating a design and unsure of part of the solution, ask appropriate questions of the Team Leader or onshore company Design Department Person so the best solution to identified.
- Complete all designs to a high standard with minimal error.
- Utilise client software or databases to investigate existing network infrastructure which is relevant for incorporating into designs.
- Correct use of company systems e.g., SiteTRAX.
- Obtain advice from the Quality Lead, the Design Team Leader to ensure designs are competed to the highest possible standard.
- As part of the design process determine the type of materials and equipment that is incorporated into the design, as well as the quantity required of each part. Generate build of material “BOM” and bill of quantity “BOQ” files.
- When requested, review designs before they are submitted to the client. The QA process should follow the established processes for conducting a QA and appropriate records created and stored.
- Where required, liaise with surveyors, construction team, property owners, occupants and client to explain designs, related decision making and to negotiate agreed designs.
- Contribute to the success of the design team by active participation in process development.
Survey Drafting:
- Review new work packet (WP) site information and check if any old WP exists for the same address.
- Check applicable previous WP and reason of cancellation. Understand and analyse what is written on the portal notes and why the new WP is created.
- Utilise client software to investigate existing network at sites and make scope decisions for the help of Delivery Partner.
- Prepare Pre-Survey Packs using Netmap CAD and/or PDF editing software, underground plan and survey template with all technical information required to be used by Delivery Partners during the site scope.
- Check WPs with Consent Only tag in client’s software and validate them for a consent only status if needed. Use the provided location ID to confirm the right location of the requestor in Netmap (double check it in property guru and google maps).
- By using Netmap, check the network if the property is possibly fully or partially built already by the company. If proven build and connected, this WP will be sent for cancellation.
- Correct use of company and client’s systems e.g. SiteTRAX, Netmap, iTools & Portal etc.
- Contribute to the success of the Survey Drafting Specialist Team by active participation in process development.

General:
- Any reasonable task assigned by Host Manager/Employee, Design Team Leader or Client Operations Manager from time to time.
- Provide design support by managing call overflow and back up where required.
- Attend and constructively participate in team and company meetings.
- Escalate any issues to relevant Team Leader and Hosts on a regular and timely basis.
- Comply with all reasonable instructions outlined in the policies and procedures provided by the company.
- Adhere to relevant company policies and procedures including Human Resources and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other reasonable duties and/or any additional task as requested by management.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of telecommunications networks and protocols.
- An understanding of survey and field construction.
- Strong problem-solving skills in making safe and cost-effective end-user designs.
- Attention to detail, correctly applying complex client technical specifications and SORs so revenue is claimed.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to maintain a positive attitude and the initiative to work well without constant supervision.
- Proven ability to stay calm under time pressure and be adaptive to evolving business requirements.
- Process oriented so work is completed in a structured manner is a plus.
- Advanced English speaking and writing skills, including the ability to communicate with various stakeholder types.
Nice-to-Haves:
- At least 2 years of telecommunications broadband network design experience.
- Previous experience designing complex telecommunications systems in commercial/industrial environments across multiple technology domains on both Greenfield and Brownfield projects.
- Experience in reviewing and auditing external designs.
- Knowledge of New Zealand public records of its telecommunications network (Netmapth).
- Intermediate to advanced use of AutoCAD and PDF writing software.
- Experience using PDF Editors, AutoCAD, SpatialNET, and SiteTRAX.
- Experience using Microsoft SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
- Process oriented so work is completed in a structured manner.
