Overview
A Food Attendant is responsible for serving food and beverages to customers in various food establishments like restaurants, cafes, or cafeterias. They ensure customers have a pleasant dining experience by providing excellent service and maintaining a clean and organized environment.
Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Greet customers, take orders, and provide information about the menu, specials, and food preparation.
- Food and Beverage Service: Serve food and drinks to customers in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring accuracy in orders.
- Maintain Cleanliness: Keep tables, chairs, and dining areas clean and organized. Clean up after customers leave.
- Preparation: Assist with food preparation or setup of food stations as required.
- Monitor Customer Needs: Regularly check on customers to ensure their satisfaction and offer refills, additional services, or assistance.
- Handle Payments: Process customer payments and provide change or receipts.
- Comply with Health and Safety Standards: Follow safety procedures, maintain sanitation standards, and ensure the safe handling of food and drinks.
- Assist in Stocking Supplies: Restock beverages, napkins, utensils, and other essential items.
Qualifications
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with food safety or hospitality training.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or food service role is often preferred, but not always required.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle cash transactions and operate POS (Point of Sale) systems
- Time management skills to serve multiple tables and tasks efficiently
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and carry food or drinks
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift trays, dishes, and other items up to a certain weight limit. Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
- Appearance: Maintain a neat and clean appearance as per company policies.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with kitchen staff, other attendants, and management.
- Attitude: Positive attitude, customer-oriented, and proactive in solving customer issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Food handling certification (such as ServSafe) is a plus.
- Knowledge of specific dietary needs or allergies may be beneficial.
