Role Objective:
The Duty Officer is responsible for overseeing and controlling day-to-day airport operations on shift basis to ensure smooth, safe and efficient flight handling in accordance with Salamair procedures, regulatory requirements and service standards. The role acts as a focal point for operational coordination, disruption handling and real-time decision making at the station.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and control all operational activities during the shift including check-in, boarding, arrivals, ramp coordination, safety and security in accordance with laid down procedures;
- Supervise and support Airport Services Supervisors, agents and Ground Handling Agents to ensure efficient passenger processing and on-time performance;
- Act as the primary point of contact for operational matters during the shift and in absence of Airport Service Manager represent SalamAir with airport authorities, service providers and internal departments;
- Coordinate with IOCC, Network Planning, Revenue Management and Flight Operations for effective handling of disruptions, delays and service recovery;
- Ensure timely implementation of recovery plans during disruptions and keep all stakeholders informed;
- Conduct shift briefings and debriefings to communicate operational priorities, safety requirements and service expectations;
- Monitor resource deployment including manpower, equipment and facilities to ensure optimal utilization and operational efficiency;
- Ensure compliance with SalamAir policies, Ground Operations Manual, safety standards and regulatory requirements at all times;
- Ensure all manuals, circulars and advisories are communicated and available to relevant personnel;
- Oversee passenger handling activities including special services, baggage handling, boarding, ramp and load control processes to ensure service quality standards are met;
- Monitor and control passenger flow, queue management and coordination with airport stakeholders including immigration, security and terminal operations;
- Ensure all incidents, accidents, operational irregularities and safety hazards are reported through Centrik systems and assist in investigations as required;
- Maintain continuous liaison with all stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination of turnaround activities and adherence to schedules;
- Ensure proper grooming standards, discipline and professional conduct of all staff during the shift;
- Promote SalamAir image and maintain high standards of customer service at all times;
- Monitor performance of Ground Handling Agents and service providers against agreed SGHA, SLAs and ensure compliance;
- Ensure adherence to baggage handling procedures and oversee resolution of baggage irregularities;
- Validate operational reports including flight handling, delays, disruptions, SSA, SEC and ensure timely submission to SalamAir HQ;
- Identify operational risks, unsafe practices or conditions and ensure corrective and preventive actions are taken in line with SMS requirements;
- Control operational costs during the shift and ensure efficient utilization of resources in line with company objectives;
- Ensure compliance with safety and security standards in accordance with AOSP Chapter 3.4 and 14.13;
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager.
Requirements
- The Duty Officer should have sound knowledge of Ground Services functions and airport operations with the ability to manage real-time operational scenarios and disruptions.
- A Diploma/Graduate in any discipline from any recognized University or minimum 05 years experience in Aviation of which at least 02 years must be in a supervisory role in Ground Services functions and Operations.
- Should be well versed with airport operations, disruption handling and stakeholder coordination.
- Should possess strong leadership, decision-making, communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of SMS program is essential. World tracer and Load sheet qualifications will be an added advantage.
