Job summary

The Salvation Army Christchurch, South Island, is seeking a casual Support Worker for the Addington Hostel. The role prioritizes night shifts and weekends within a 24-hour care and housing support setting.

You will provide medication support, engage with residents, ensure site safety, assist with cleaning and food duties, and complete progress notes. A Level 4 Health and Wellbeing or near completion, plus 1 year in related services, is requested.

Qualifications

• Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing or approved equivalent.
• Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing near completion within the next 3 months.
• At least 1 year experience in mental health, addictions, corrections or housing services.
• Comfortable working with an all male client group.
• Must be able to work night shifts as a priority.

About the Business:

The Addington Hostel has been providing ongoing 24 hour care and housing support for approximately 130 years. It is part of the range of Transistional housing options that focuses upon the particular housing needs for Men who have had recent involvement with Corrections , Mental health and Addictions services.

About the Role:

The Support Workers, are an essential part of our 24 hour hostel team. There is always Support Workers onsite across the day and night. Due to an internal appointment, we are needing an additional Casual Support worker with a particular ability to help cover Night and Weekend shifts, when other permanent staff are on leave.

What will your responsibilities be:

• Medication support
• Engagement with tangata across the shift
• Site safety and security
• Cleaning and food duties as needed
• Working together with other Support workers
• Completing progress notes during the shift

Our ideal candidate will:

• Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or approved equivalent)
• Will consider someone with Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing who is near completed the Level 4 Certificate in next 3 months
• Have at least 1 year prior experience in Mental health, Addictions, Corrections or Housing services
• Comfortable working with an all male client group
• Must be able to work night shifts as a priority

The starting hourly rate for this role will fall between$29.90 and $30.97 depending upon your qualification
