The Salvation Army Wellington Bridge Services is seeking an Outreach Intake Caseworker to coordinate referrals and preadmission for residential treatment. The Salvation Army Bridge Services provide a range of effective support services in both residential and community based settings that use a range of evidence-based holistic approaches to reduce the physical, physiological and social harm that can result from the use of alcohol and or other drugs. The Salvation Army Wellington Bridge services provide safe, integrated, high quality treatment and support services to people whose lives have been affected by alcohol and/or other substance use.

About the Role:

The purpose of this role is to facilitate the referral and preadmission process to a residential treatment programme, connecting with tāngata whai ora, whānau, referrers and support persons prior to admission to the residential programme.

The Outreach Intake Caseworker will be the first point of contact for referrers and tāngata whai ora. They will assist referrers, tāngata whai ora and whānau to ensure a smooth transition from their current environment and state to that of starting this stage of their recovery journey at the Bridge. Engagement can be conducted within community settings, support services the individual is connected with, in partnership with probation services, via audio visual link (AVL), or at the Centre.

We have established that assisting referrers, whānau and individuals to better understand the processes required in making a referral; ensuring the transfer of good, quality and relevant information; and assisting tāngata whai ora into the programme with understanding, compassion and support enhances their therapeutic recovery journey.

• Be competent in a range of assessments (comprehensive, brief, risk/needs, capacity) and treatment planning.
• Be engaging and quick to build rapport.
• Be able to both gather and share information in a clear and coherent way.
• Offer therapeutic interventions appropriate for preadmission stage of treatment.
• Utilise a collaborative strengths-based approach in working with service users to identify their goals, strengths, and challenges.
• Work alongside and in collaboration with a range of other services and referrers (primary care, Kaupapa Māori providers, marae, peer support services, Te Whatu Ora, corrections, justice, housing).
• Be responsible for case managing, co-ordinating, monitoring and evaluating the options and services required, pre admission.

Our ideal candidate will:

• Degree inAddiction. An alternative qualification or an alternative relevant qualification such as social work, clinical psychology, counselling if there is accompanying evidence of understanding and work in reducing substance related harms.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Dapaanz (or an alternative equivalent) Practitioner Registration.
• Commitment to continuing professional development relevant to addiction studies.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, sharing information, ideas and effective practices while maintaining client and service privacy, and confidentiality.

Hours of work:This is apermanent full time role of 40 hours per week Monday to Friday however, part time hours may be considered for the right candidate.
