Job summary

Jora Malaysia seeks a Senior Design & Costing Engineer (Solar Industry) to lead design reviews, validate BOMs, and optimize costs while maintaining performance and reliability. You will attend site visits with the BD & Project Engineer on order intake and ensure designs comply with local standards and internal guidelines.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with the team on engineering scope coverage, and support procurement planning during KOM and related milestones.

Qualifications

• Experience in solar PV design and related engineering work.
• Ability to prepare project management documentation and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of Health, Safety and Occupational guidelines (HSO) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Attend site visits with Business Development & Project Engineer on order intake.
• Review, validate, and approve project designs, BOMs, and engineering concepts.
• Ensure designs are optimized for cost efficiency while maintaining performance, quality, and reliability.
• Provide engineering rationale for design decisions and value engineering proposals.
• Ensure designs comply with local regulations and internal guidelines.
• Oversee timely delivery of design documents and drawings per schedules.
• Validate BOM quantities for procurement alignment.
• Meet with Business Development & Project Engineer to confirm scopes and details.
• Attend KOM and brief Purchaser on module quantities and subcon costs.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and promote best practices.

Senior Design & Costing Engineer (Solar Industry)

Attend site visits with Business Development & Project Engineer upon order intake.

Review, validate, and approve project designs, engineering concepts, and detailed Bills of Material (BOM), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project objectives.

Ensure all designs are optimized for cost efficiency while maintaining performance, quality, and long-term reliability.

Provide technical justification and engineering rationale for design decisions, including value engineering proposals where applicable.

Ensure all engineering designs and drawings comply with relevant local regulations, industry standards, and internal engineering guidelines.

Oversee and ensure timely delivery of all design documents and drawings in accordance with project schedules and milestones.

Validate and approve final BOM quantities to ensure accuracy and alignment with procurement and project needs.

Obtain proposed subcon company and compared cost from Project Engineer.

Meet and discuss with Business Development & Project Engineer on the Engineering Design, finalize and ensure all scopes & details are covered/ included.

Attend Kick Off Meeting (KOM) and notify Purchaser (F & A) on solar panels & inverters model & quantity; BOM List Quantity and Subcon Cost for purchase planning during KOM.

Mentor and develop junior engineers by providing technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback, while promoting engineering best practices, quality standards, and continuous improvement.

Perform any other duties as assigned by the superior.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

At least 5-6 years of experience in solar PV design or related engineering work.

At least Diploma, Advanced / Higher / Graduate Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, Professional Degree in Engineering.

Experience in preparing project management documentation.

Knowledge and experience in preparing system related documentation Software & Tools: MS Word, MS Excel MS Visio, AUTOCAD, Helios, PVsyst or equivalent.

Experience & understanding of Health, Safety and Occupational (HSO) will be added advantage.

Must be able & willing to work on Public Holiday in completing required tasks.

Ability to start work immediately / within short notice period would be added advantage.
