Job summary

Micro Energy Holdings in Kuala Lumpur is seeking an Assistant Manager – Design Engineer to lead the design and engineering activities for solar PV projects from site assessment through to implementation.

You will review designs, ensure compliance with ST, TNB, SEDA, MS/IEC standards, and hold GCPV certification. Proficiency in AutoCAD and PVsyst, plus coordination with internal teams and subcontractors, will be essential. Travel to project sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 4–6 years of experience in Solar PV design and engineering, preferably with experience in commercial/industrial projects.
  • Valid GCPV competency/certification is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV) systems.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and solar PV design/simulation software such as PVsyst.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing SLD, electrical drawings, PV layouts, string configuration and engineering calculations.
  • Experience in project coordination and technical documentation.
  • Good leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willing to travel to project sites when required.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

Assistant Manager – Design Engineer (Solar PV)

Job Summary

The Assistant Manager – Design Engineer is responsible for leading and overseeing the design and engineering activities for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, from initial site assessment and system design through to project implementation. The role requires strong technical knowledge of grid-connected solar PV systems and the ability to review designs, coordinate with internal teams and consultants, and ensure compliance with applicable technical standards and requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and review the design of grid-connected solar PV systems for residential, commercial and industrial projects.
  • Prepare and review single-line diagrams (SLD), electrical layouts, string layouts, equipment layouts and system schematics.
  • Perform PV system sizing, module/inverter selection, string configuration and system optimisation.
  • Conduct preliminary technical assessments, including site conditions, electrical requirements and solar PV system feasibility.
  • Review PV system performance, energy yield and generation estimates.
  • Ensure designs are technically sound, practical and cost-effective.
2. Engineering & Technical Review
  • Review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications and technical documents prepared by the Design Engineers.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), TNB, SEDA, MS/IEC standards and applicable solar PV requirements.
  • Provide technical solutions for design and installation issues.
  • Conduct technical reviews and identify potential design risks before project implementation.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues during construction and commissioning.
3. GCPV Responsibilities
  • Hold a valid GCPV certification and apply the relevant requirements in solar PV system design and implementation.
  • Review and ensure GCPV system designs meet applicable technical and safety requirements.
  • Assist with documentation and technical submissions related to grid-connected PV systems.
  • Support site inspections, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting where required.
  • Supervise and guide Design Engineers and Junior Design Engineers.
  • Review and approve design work before submission to the Project team or client.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the design team.
5. Project Coordination
  • Coordinate with Project, Procurement, Sales, O&M and subcontractors to ensure designs are aligned with project requirements.
  • Attend site meetings and technical discussions.
6. Documentation & Compliance
  • Ensure all design drawings, calculations, BOQ, technical specifications and project documentation are properly prepared and maintained.
  • Review as-built drawings and ensure design changes are properly documented.
  • Maintain proper records of design revisions and technical approvals.
  • Ensure all designs comply with company procedures, safety requirements and applicable regulations.
Requirements
