Job summary

TERA VA SDN. BHD. is seeking a Senior Design & Costing Engineer for its solar projects. You will participate in site visits with BD & Project Engineer, review and approve designs and BOMs, and ensure cost-efficient yet high-quality engineering outcomes.

Role requires 5-6 years in solar PV design or related engineering, with engineering degree(s) and experience in project management documentation. Proficiency in tools like AutoCAD, Helios, PVsyst is desirable.

Qualifications

• 5-6+ years of experience in solar PV design or related engineering.
• Diploma or higher in Engineering (Diploma/Advanced/Graduate Diploma, Bachelor's or Professional Degree).
• Experience in preparing project management documentation.

Responsibilities

• Visit sites with BD & Project Engineer during order intake.
• Review, validate, and approve project designs, engineering concepts, and BOMs.
• Ensure designs are cost-optimized while meeting performance and quality targets.
• Provide technical justification and value engineering proposals.
• Ensure compliance with local regs, industry standards, and internal guidelines.
• Oversee timely delivery of design documents and drawings per schedule.
• Validate BOM quantities and align with procurement needs.
• Engage with Project Engineer on design scope and subcon costs.
• Attend Kick Off Meetings and communicate BOM and subcon cost details.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Senior Design & Costing Engineer (Solar Industry)

Attend site visits with Business Development & Project Engineer upon order intake.

Review, validate, and approve project designs, engineering concepts, and detailed Bills of Material (BOM), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project objectives.

Ensure all designs are optimized for cost efficiency while maintaining performance, quality, and long-term reliability.

Provide technical justification and engineering rationale for design decisions, including value engineering proposals where applicable.

Ensure all engineering designs and drawings comply with relevant local regulations, industry standards, and internal engineering guidelines.

Oversee and ensure timely delivery of all design documents and drawings in accordance with project schedules and milestones.

Validate and approve final BOM quantities to ensure accuracy and alignment with procurement and project needs.

Obtain proposed subcon company and compared cost from Project Engineer.

Meet and discuss with Business Development & Project Engineer on the Engineering Design, finalize and ensure all scopes & details are covered/ included.

Attend Kick Off Meeting (KOM) and notify Purchaser (F & A) on solar panels & inverters model & quantity; BOM List Quantity and Subcon Cost for purchase planning during KOM.

Mentor and develop junior engineers by providing technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback, while promoting engineering best practices, quality standards, and continuous improvement.

Perform any other duties as assigned by the superior.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

At least 5-6 years of experience in solar PV design or related engineering work.

At least Diploma, Advanced / Higher / Graduate Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, Professional Degree in Engineering.

Experience in preparing project management documentation.

Knowledge and experience in preparing system related documentation Software & Tools: MS Word, MS Excel MS Visio, AUTOCAD, Helios, PVsyst or equivalent.

Experience & understanding of Health, Safety and Occupational (HSO) will be added advantage.

Must be able to meet work deadlines as per required.

Ability to start work immediately / within short notice period would be added advantage.
