Job summary

SCHOTT in Penang, Malaysia seeks an experienced Plant Manager to provide leadership for production and engineering teams. You will drive KPI achievement, cost efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery while optimizing manpower and equipment across multiple projects.

The role requires a Bachelor degree in Engineering or manufacturing with 10+ years in manufacturing, strong leadership, lean/six sigma expertise, and solid communication skills. ISO compliance and a safety-first mindset are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years related working experience in manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership in leading and coaching teams.
  • Understanding of health and safety, operational management, Lean, SAP, Six Sigma and ISO.
  • Excellent communication, numeracy and computer literacy skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

  • Provide overall leadership and manage a group of production employees including engineering team to achieve company goals and department KPI.
  • Work with functional teams to achieve common goals in terms of production output, cost, quality, on time delivery and work force requirements.
  • Supervise and oversee budgets, plans and programs to ensure the optimum utilisation of available equipment, space and labour force to attain plant-manufacturing objectives.
  • Optimization of processes and reduce manufacturing operations costs through innovative strategies.
  • Assure achievement of management and manufacturing objective through the proper selection, development, training and motivation of subordinates.
  • Continuously plan to improve work environment, methods, effectiveness & resource utilization, and critically review and monitor operating results.
  • Responsible for implementing cost improvement programs through Lean Manufacturing techniques and drive successful business excellence programs for manufacturing.
  • Maintain operational excellence by executing TPM and 5S activities and implement/monitor Lean activities and mind-set.
  • Adhering to Corporate EHS guidelines, local EHS legislations and promoting accident free workplace.
  • Models optimum leadership competencies to inspire an energized, empowered and accountable team, ethical behaviour and actualization of the SCHOTT core values
  • Responsible to plan and manage the workload of the engineers across concurrent projects to ensure that all project objectives are met in a timely manner with high standards.
  • Ensure that all required reports, engineering and other documentation are completed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for creating, modifying and revising manufacturing work instructions and process flow documentation.
  • Any other work/project assigned to you by your superior(s) from time to time.

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years related working experience in the manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skill in leading and coaching a team of employees.
  • An understanding of the health and safety aspects of a manufacturing environment, operational management, Lean and SAP, Six Sigma and ISO methodology, Engineering background
  • Excellent communication, numeracy and computer literacy skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Being able to develop good working relationships and trust with various teams.
