Job summary

HOTEL METRASQUARE & AMES HOTEL, AYER KEROH MELAKA is seeking an Engineering Assistant responsible for maintaining guestroom and public area equipment, safety systems, and general facilities within a hotel environment.

Applicants should have a Diploma in Engineering (Bachelor’s preferred) and may be a new graduate or have up to 1 year of engineering experience. The role involves safety, preventive maintenance, and timely repairs to ensure guest comfort and safety.

Qualifications

• At least a vocational diploma in Engineering with preference for a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
• New graduate or at least 1 year experience in engineering.

Responsibilities

• Guestroom: maintain and repair equipment, appliances, sanitary wear and fixtures as assigned by supervisor.
• Public area: maintain and repair equipment and fixtures as assigned by supervisor.
• Fire alarm/life safety system: monitor, test and operate safety systems as necessary.
• Tools: clean, lubricate, protect and maintain tools; return tools in good condition.
• Emergencies: act quickly and effectively to protect guests and employees.
• Maintain building and systems during emergencies and report to management.
• Accident prevention: understand and act on safety codes; minimize damages.
• Departmental duty: keep engineering areas clean and organized.
• General: complete all assigned work safely and professionally; ensure materials and supplies are available.
• Job Order: complete orders and reasonable requests not life-threatening or illegal.

Duties and Responsibilities

• 1. Guestroom: maintain and repair every equipment, appliance, sanitary wear which includes plunging toilets, unclogging drains, repairing all types of hardware, plumbing, electrical equipment and furniture and fixtures as assigned by the supervisor.
• 2. Public area: maintain and repair every equipment, appliance, sanitary wear which includes plunging toilets, unclogging drains, repairing all types of hardware, plumbing, electrical equipment and furniture and fixtures as assigned by the supervisor.
• 3. Fire alarm/ life safety system: to monitor and perform test system as necessary, to learn, understand, and know how to operate safety and emergency system and related, including fire sprinkler and emergency power system.
• 4. Tools: to clean, lubricate, protect and maintain all tools which are assigned to individuals including others. To be responsible for returning of tools to the Engineering Shop in their good conditions.
• 5. Emergencies: to update themselves of how to act and must act as quickly and effectively in case of accident and emergency to protect our guest and employees.
• 6. To do their best ability to preserve the building and systems during the emergency. To as quickly and responsibly as possible turn the building to its normal operating stage under supervision of Engineering Management. To immediately inform company management of any such emergencies.
• 7. Accident prevention and safety; to understand and can act upon all safety and accidental codes and measures to at their best prevent accident and incidents. However, in case of accident, must know and effective take proper action to minimize damages and life threatening situation.
• 8. Departmental duty: to keep clean the engineering areas, as assigned by supervisor in order to work in a neat and efficient manner.
• 9. General: to complete all assigned works in a safe and professional manner. Maintain communications with supervisors to ensure that all needed materials, tools and supplies are available.
• 10. Job Order: to complete Job order and any reasonable request made of management which is not life threatening or against the law.

• 12. To perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
