Job summary

VolFront is seeking a senior data engineer to own the data-loader fleet and the PostgreSQL-backed data layer. You will design scalable ingestion, ensure data freshness before market open, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with app/LLM teams.

You will work across Windows batch tasks on Azure, Linux Go loaders, and FDW-backed data stores, driving reliability, observability, and cost efficiency in a high-stakes trading data platform.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building and running production data systems with end-to-end ownership.
• Deep PostgreSQL: partitioning, indexing, 100M+ row tables, FDW, storage health.
• Strong Python for architecting loaders, not patching.
• Experience on Windows Server and Linux.
• Data-integrity discipline with fail-loud behavior.
• Pub/Sub over polling for live data feeds.
• Monitoring and incident response experience.
• Ability to work autonomously in a small team.

Responsibilities

• Own the market-data pipeline and its compute fleet across Windows and Linux.
• Define ingestion schema, idempotency, partitioning, backfill strategy.
• Manage the PostgreSQL data layer at scale, including indexing and vacuum health.
• Ensure nightly/before-market data loads are complete and fresh.
• Direct data-ops engineer and interns on pipeline work.
• Collaborate with app/LLM engineers to keep contracts stable.
