Oportun is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain advanced data platforms that power our financial services.

You will own data architecture, pipelines, and governance while mentoring engineers and driving cross-functional initiatives. You will lead end-to-end data solutions, ensure security and performance, and partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data models.

Formación

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering with focus on data architecture, ETL, and databases.
• Strong programming in Python or PySpark, plus Java or Scala.
• Experience building end-to-end data pipelines and data integration solutions.
• Strong SQL knowledge and relational/NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, or comparable platforms.
• Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Databricks, Jenkins.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable data systems.
• Familiarity with AWS/Azure/GCP cloud data services.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical leadership.
• Strong communication across technical and non-technical teams.

Responsabilidades

• Design and implement scalable data architectures to support business and analytical needs.
• Build and maintain data pipelines, ETL processes, and integration solutions for large data volumes.
• Optimize data pipelines, databases, data warehouses, and data lakes for performance and security.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate data requirements into models and solutions.
• Establish data quality standards, validation rules, and governance practices.
• Implement monitoring and observability to improve performance and reliability.
• Provide technical leadership on architecture, scalability, and extensibility.
• Lead code reviews to maintain high standards for quality and performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of learning and excellence.
• Own production issues with root-cause analysis and long-term resolution.
• Lead multiple features and projects, coordinating across teams and stakeholders.
• Evolve engineering tools and practices and promote adoption of better workflows.
• Explore AI tools to improve productivity, analysis, and problem-solving.
