Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Controller to own accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of US-based clients. You will lead a team that performs the work and serves as the senior point of contact for clients.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including controller roles.
• Proven experience managing multiple clients in outsourced/accounting environments.
• Experience leading and developing accounting teams: assigning, reviewing, holding to a high standard.
• Strong command of US GAAP, month-end close, and financial statement prep.
• Excellent written and spoken English; able to lead client conversations.
• Strong Excel skills and quick to learn new accounting platforms.
• Ownership mindset with attention to detail and reliable follow-through.

Responsibilities

• Own client portfolios: month-end close, financial statements, and reporting for each client.
• Lead client relationships; run recurring meetings and explain results clearly.
• Coach and review accountants; assign and prioritize work across portfolios.
• Review reconciliations, journal entries, and workpapers to ensure accuracy.
• Apply US GAAP to complex transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment.
• Identify process improvements to create cleaner, faster, more consistent workflows.
• Handle issues proactively and escalate to leadership when needed.
