Black & White Engineering is seeking a Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical building services design for hyperscale data centres. Based in Milan, you will guide cooling, ventilation and thermal management from concept through delivery while coordinating with electrical, structural and architectural teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive technical excellence, and ensure adherence to industry standards across challenging mission-critical projects for global clients.

As a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across complex projects, influencing design decisions from concept through to delivery. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you'll help deliver innovative cooling, ventilation and thermal management solutions that support the operational demands of modern data centres.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services systems for mission-critical projects.
• Develop and review technical calculations, specifications and engineering reports.
• Design HVAC, cooling, ventilation and water-based systems for hyperscale and colocation data centres.
• Coordinate with electrical, structural and architectural disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Attend client meetings and provide technical guidance throughout project lifecycles.
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical development across the team.
• Drive innovation and engineering excellence while ensuring compliance with relevant standards and best practices.

Essential Skills

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant experience delivering mechanical building services design projects.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, chilled water, cooling and ventilation systems.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and managing stakeholder relationships.
• Data centre or mission-critical project experience is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and technical leadership skills.
