The Role

You'll build and run our whole People & Culture function — starting from almost nothing — and turn People into one of the company's real strengths. This is a hands‑on leadership job: senior enough to design the system, close enough to still hire a key person yourself. You'll report to the CEO and own the result, not a task list.

What you'll own, end to end:

• Hiring — build the pipeline, the process, and our name as an employer, so the founders don't have to find people themselves.
• HR Operations & Compliance — keep our HR system clean and current, handle payroll inputs and legal compliance (PF, ESI, POSH), and give every new hire a smooth start.
• Performance — set clear goals, run the review cycle, and work with the founders to help every person do their best.
• Culture & Engagement — bring our values to life, keep a pulse on how people feel, and keep attrition low.
• Learning & AI — set up onboarding, run regular training, and get the team using AI in daily work.
• People & Team — plan ahead for hiring, advise the CEO, and build and lead a small People team of 3–5 that grows with the company.

What Success Looks Like

• 20+ roles closed this year, all top-quality hires
• HR system clean and current, every offer letter out within 48 hours
• Every employee working to clear quarterly goals, with the first full review cycle done on time
• First engagement survey run with 80%+ taking part, and attrition held at 15% or below
• Proper onboarding for every hire, AI used across the company, and a quarterly training calendar delivered

Must Have

• You've led and scaled 8–12 years in HR, with at least 2-3 years leading a team and helped grow a company's headcount.
• A hiring track record you can prove — specific people you've hired, with titles and dates, including a senior role you closed yourself.
• You've built, not maintained — set up an HR function from scratch.
• All-round HR judgment — operations, compliance, performance, and culture, not just one part.
• You know your numbers — time-to-fill, offer acceptance, and attrition, off the top of your head.
• You're in Kolkata, or can move here within 30 days.

Good to Have

• Structured hiring methods — scorecards and proper reference checks
• Experience running a company on a system like Scaling Up, EOS, or OKRs
• Business sense — you read the commercial side, not just the people side
• AI in your work today — you can show a real way you use it, not just talk about it
