Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Production Engineer to actively manage and control day-to-day PEB shop-floor production and fabrication activities. The candidate will be responsible for managing manpower, monitoring fabrication work, achieving daily production targets, maintaining quality, reducing rework, and ensuring smooth flow of production.
The role requires active presence on the shop floor and close supervision of workers, welders, fitters, machines, and fabrication activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively supervise daily PEB fabrication and production activities on the shop floor.
- Ensure production targets are achieved as per daily and monthly schedules.
- Monitor and control the complete fabrication process, including:
- Cutting
- Fit-up
- Welding
- Drilling
- Assembly
- Straightening
- Grinding
- Finishing
- Painting
- Supervise fabrication of columns, rafters, beams, purlins, girts, bracings, and other PEB components.
- Allocate manpower to different workstations according to production requirements.
- Directly monitor fitters, welders, gas cutters, helpers, and machine operators.
- Ensure workers follow approved fabrication drawings and work instructions.
- Read and understand fabrication/shop drawings, dimensions, weld symbols, and BOMs.
- Check dimensions, alignment, squareness, fit-up, and welding quality during production.
- Identify production problems, bottlenecks, and quality issues immediately and take corrective action.
- Coordinate with the Quality team for inspection and clearance.
- Control rejection, rework, welding defects, and dimensional errors.
- Ensure proper material identification and minimize material wastage.
- Monitor machine utilization and ensure machines are being used efficiently.
- Maintain smooth material movement and production flow between different workstations.
- Coordinate with Stores, Quality, Planning, and Dispatch teams whenever required.
- Track actual production against daily targets and report progress to the Production Manager.
- Maintain basic daily production, manpower, rejection, and rework records.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, 5S, PPE, and safety practices on the shop floor.
- Train and guide workers on proper fabrication methods and workmanship.
- Ensure production areas remain organized and free from unnecessary material or obstacles.
- Take immediate action on breakdowns, manpower shortages, material shortages, and other shop-floor issues.
- Ensure finished components are ready for inspection, painting, and dispatch as per schedule.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on knowledge of PEB / structural steel fabrication.
- Good knowledge of welding, fit-up, cutting, drilling, and assembly.
- Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings.
- Good understanding of welding defects and dimensional tolerances.
- Strong manpower handling and shop-floor supervision skills.
- Ability to achieve production targets under pressure.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel and production reporting.
- Strong focus on quality, productivity, and safety.
Qualification
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Civil, Fabrication, or related field.
ITI candidates with substantial PEB fabrication experience may also be considered.
Preferred Experience
2–6 years of hands-on experience in PEB manufacturing, structural steel fabrication, heavy fabrication, or similar industries.
Important Requirement
The candidate must be actively involved on the shop floor and should not be limited to documentation or office-based production planning.
The person should be capable of handling workers, monitoring fabrication work, solving shop-floor problems, and driving production targets on a daily basis.
