Role & responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Planning & Execution
- Plan and coordinate daily production activities based on production schedules and project requirements.
- Ensure production targets are achieved within the planned timelines.
- Monitor job progress from material receipt through fabrication, assembly, inspection, and dispatch.
- Coordinate with planning, engineering, purchase, stores, quality, and project teams for smooth production.
- Identify production bottlenecks and take corrective action to avoid delays.
2. Shop Floor Supervision
- Supervise production activities and guide operators, technicians, welders, fitters, and other shop-floor personnel.
- Allocate manpower and resources according to job requirements and priorities.
- Ensure work is carried out as per approved drawings, work instructions, and procedures.
- Monitor productivity and improve utilization of manpower, machines, and equipment.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and discipline on the shop floor.
3. Fabrication & Assembly:
- Monitor fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and installation-related activities.
- Ensure dimensions, tolerances, alignment, welding requirements, and assembly procedures are followed.
- Coordinate with the Quality Department for inspections at required stages.
- Ensure proper handling and protection of finished and semi-finished components.
- Support troubleshooting of fabrication and assembly issues.
4. Quality Control
- Ensure production activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with QC/QA personnel for stage inspections and final inspections.
- Identify non-conformities and implement corrective actions.
- Minimize rework, rejection, and material wastage.
- Ensure traceability of materials and production records where required.
5. Material & Resource Management
- Coordinate with Stores and Purchase for timely availability of raw materials, bought-out items, consumables, and tools.
- Monitor material consumption and minimize wastage.
- Ensure proper utilization of production equipment, tools, and machinery.
- Report shortages, damages, and material requirements to the concerned department.
6. Safety
- Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and site/workshop safety requirements.
- Conduct and participate in safety toolbox meetings and job-specific safety briefings.
- Ensure workers use appropriate PPE and follow safe working practices.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses.
- Ensure safe working practices for lifting, welding, grinding, machining, assembly, and material handling activities.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily production reports and job-progress records.
- Prepare production status reports and highlight delays or critical issues.
- Maintain records related to manpower, production output, material consumption, rework, and machine utilization.
- Provide regular updates to the Production Manager / Factory Manager.
- Ensure production documentation is properly maintained and updated.
8. Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Engineering for drawing clarifications and technical issues.
- Coordinate with QC/QA for inspections and quality clearance.
- Coordinate with Stores/Purchase for material availability.
- Coordinate with subcontractors/sub-vendors when production activities are outsourced.
- Support project teams in achieving committed delivery schedules.
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achievement of production targets.
- On-time completion and dispatch of jobs.
- Manpower productivity and utilization.
- Reduction in rework and rejection.
- Material utilization and reduction of wastage.
- Compliance with quality requirements.
- Compliance with safety requirements.
- Effective utilization of machines and production resources.
Preferred candidate profile
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Relevant experience in manufacturing, fabrication, machinery, equipment, or process-plant industries.
- Good knowledge of engineering drawings, fabrication, welding, assembly, and manufacturing processes.
- Basic knowledge of quality and safety requirements.

- Responsible for identifying production issues and escalating critical matters to the Production Manager / Factory Manager.
- Accountable for production quality, productivity, safety, and timely completion of assigned jobs.
