Senior PLC Engineer - Automation & Commissioning
ABOUT THE ROLE
Own the electrical and software side of automated machinery, from panel build through to production handover. You will be the on-site technical point of contact for PLC logic, HMI, robotics and vision integration - writing the control logic, proving it on the machine, and getting the line to run reliably. This is a hands-on site role: expect equal time at the laptop and at the panel.
The position is on Syntek Automation LLP payroll, deployed on-site at client premises in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. You will report to Syntek's Technical Lead through a weekly online review, with day-to-day coordination at the client site.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Control software development
- Develop, structure and document PLC logic (ladder / function block) for machine and line-level control.
- Build HMI screens for operator interfaces - recipes, alarms, diagnostics and production counters.
- Program robots for pick-and-place, material handling and machine-tending applications.
- Configure and integrate vision systems for inspection, presence checks and code reading.
- Set up servo drives, VFDs, motion profiles and sensor calibration.
Electrical commissioning and panel work
- Read and mark up electrical schematics, I/O lists and cable schedules; feed corrections back to design.
- Supervise or execute control panel wiring, terminations and pre-power checks.
- Carry out field installation: sensors, actuators, safety devices, drives and network cabling.
- Perform I/O checkout, dry runs, safety circuit validation and interlock testing before production trials.
Integration and problem solving
- Integrate new equipment into existing lines with minimum production disruption.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, logic, communication and mechanical-interface faults on live equipment.
- Work with mechanical, quality, production and IT teams to close integration gaps.
- Drive cycle-time, uptime and false-reject improvements once the machine is running.
Documentation and handover
- Maintain versioned backups of all PLC, HMI, robot and vision programs.
- Produce as-built drawings, I/O lists, parameter sheets and commissioning reports.
- Train operators and maintenance staff; hand over troubleshooting guides and spare-part lists.
- Submit weekly progress reports to Syntek's technical lead.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Independent PLC programming and debugging on at least one mainstream platform (Mitsubishi, Siemens, Omron, Allen-Bradley or equivalent), with the ability to pick up a new PLC platform quickly, as the client standard may differ from your current one.
- HMI development on any mainstream platform: screen design, alarm handling, recipe management.
- Industrial communication: Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, CANopen or Profinet.
- Servo and VFD configuration, tuning and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and correct control panel drawings, and to wire and test a panel unaided.
- Confident use of a multimeter, oscilloscope and diagnostic software on a live machine.
- Site discipline: safety compliance, LOTO, working at height, shop-floor conduct.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Robot programming - SCARA, parallel-kinematic or 6-axis articulated (Epson, Fanuc, Yaskawa, Universal Robots or similar).
- Machine vision setup, including lighting and optics selection.
- AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
- SCADA / MES exposure - OPC UA, SQL logging, dashboard tags, IIoT gateways.
- Safety PLC or safety relay architecture and risk-assessment awareness.
- Experience in electronics, EMS, SMT or precision assembly manufacturing.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- Solves problems on the floor rather than escalating them upward.
- Clear communication in English; Tamil and/or Hindi an advantage for shop-floor coordination.
- Willing to work extended hours or shifts during commissioning and production ramp-up.
- Open to short-notice travel for site work and factory acceptance testing.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Direct exposure to a large multinational electronics manufacturing operation.
- Ownership of complete machines rather than a narrow slice of a project.
- Structured technical mentoring from Syntek's engineering leadership.
- Salary commensurate with experience and demonstrated capability.
