Job Description
A Junior Technician - Operation Theatre supports the surgical team in preparing and maintaining the operation theatre for surgical procedures. The involves preparing instruments and equipment, assisting during procedures, maintaining sterile conditions, supporting patient preparation and transfer, handling surgical supplies, following infection control protocols, and ensuring that the operation theatre remains safe, clean, organized, and ready for scheduled and emergency surgeries.
- Prepare the operation theatre before scheduled surgical procedures.
- Arrange surgical instruments, equipment, consumables, and sterile supplies.
- Assist surgical and nursing teams during procedures as directed.
- Check the availability and functionality of OT equipment before procedures.
- Support patient positioning and safe transfer under nursing supervision.
- Assist with preparation of surgical trolleys and procedure-specific requirements.
- Maintain sterile technique and follow infection prevention protocols.
- Support cleaning, disinfection, and turnover of the operation theatre.
- Assist in counting instruments, swabs, and other surgical items as per protocol.
- Handle surgical instruments safely and assist with their collection after procedures.
- Send used instruments for appropriate cleaning, sterilization, and processing.
- Maintain records related to OT procedures, equipment, and consumables as assigned.
- Monitor availability of OT supplies and report shortages.
- Assist in preparing the theatre for emergency procedures.
- Follow biomedical waste segregation and disposal procedures.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the responsible supervisor.
- Maintain patient privacy, safety, and dignity.
- Follow hospital SOPs, infection control standards, and safety procedures.
