Job Description
Staff Nurse - OT is responsible for providing nursing care and assisting the surgical team during operative and perioperative procedures. The includes patient preparation, assisting with surgical procedures, maintaining aseptic conditions, handling instruments and supplies, postoperative support, documentation, and ensuring patient safety.
- Prepare the operating theatre before scheduled procedures.
- Prepare and position patients according to surgical requirements.
- Verify patient identity, procedure, consent, and surgical-site information.
- Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during surgical procedures.
- Perform scrub or circulating nursing duties as assigned.
- Prepare and maintain sterile instruments and surgical supplies.
- Maintain strict aseptic and infection-control practices.
- Assist with surgical counts of instruments, swabs, needles, and consumables.
- Monitor patient condition and vital signs during procedures as assigned.
- Ensure availability and readiness of OT equipment and emergency supplies.
- Assist with specimen handling and proper documentation.
- Support safe patient transfer before and after surgery.
- Maintain OT registers, procedure records, and nursing documentation.
- Coordinate with CSSD, laboratory, blood bank, pharmacy, and other departments.
- Assist during surgical emergencies and resuscitation.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and OT readiness after procedures.
- Monitor stock levels of surgical consumables and supplies.
- Follow medication-safety and patient-identification protocols.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Follow OT SOPs, hospital policies, and professional nursing standards.
