Job summary

Y&L Consulting is seeking an experienced iSeries RPG/AS/400 developer to analyze, design, and maintain RPG-based applications using RPG Free, RPGLE, CL, and embedded SQL. You will guide projects to completion, follow enterprise standards, and mentor junior staff.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in IT software development, deep RPG/AS400 experience, and strong communication skills to present complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Experience with RPG Free, RPG, RPGLE, CL/CLLE, SQL RPGLE and embedded SQL.
• BS in information technology or related analytical field.
• Minimum 10 years of IT software development experience as a programmer.
• At least 8 years developing with RPG and AS/400.
• Healthcare domain knowledge is a plus.
• Experience with SDLC, source control, QA processes and release management.
• Proven ability to work with third-party vendors.
• Self-motivated, curious, creative, and passionate about emerging tech.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, develop, and maintain iSeries applications using RPG, RPG ILE, RPG-FREE, and SQL.
• Lead programming projects through completion per standards and user satisfaction.
• Apply enterprise methodologies and standards for software development and execution.
• Provide analytical and problem-solving expertise to resolve issues.
• Identify and recommend solutions for business process gaps.
• Support QA in development of integration tests and results.
• Act as a technical mentor and train staff as appropriate.
• Translate technical information for non-technical audiences.
• Interact with vendors and service providers regarding systems and business processes.
• Keep pace with trends and best practices, contributing to continuous improvement.
• Produce high-quality code, estimate projects, and provide trade-off analysis.
• Provide formal status reporting weekly.

• Responsible for taking programming projects through to completion according to project standards and user satisfaction.
• Consistently apply appropriate enterprise methodologies and standards for software development and execution.
• Provide analytical and problem-solving expertise to resolve business and systems issues.
• Proactively identify and provides recommendations on solutions for gaps in business processes and systems.
• Support QA in the development of integration test plans, test conditions, and expected test results.
• Act as a technical mentor to others and train staff as appropriate.
• Translate technical information to a non-technical audience.
• Frequently interacts with vendors and service providers regarding systems and business processes.
• Keep pace with business trends, standards, and best practices in area of expertise, contributing to continuous improvement for the department and overall.
• Produce excellent quality code, accurate project estimations, creative solution options, and trade-off analysis.
• Provide formal status reporting weekly.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge and experience working in RPG Free, RPG, RPGLE, CL, CLLE, SQL RPGLE, Aldon, and embedded SQL.
• Bachelors degree in information technology or related analytical field.
• Minimum of 10 years’Information Technology software development experience as a programmer.
• Minimal 8 years’ experiencedeveloping with RPG and the AS/400.
• Experience in Healthcare domain knowledge is a plus.
• Experience working within an environment with a structured Software Development Life Cycle including source control, QA processes and release management.
• Demonstrated experience working with third-party vendors.
• Self- motivated, curious, creative, and passionate about emerging technology.
• Highly developed written, verbal, and presentation communication skills that effectively articulate complex technical concepts to a diverse and, at times, non-technical audience at all levels in the organization.
