Responsibilities

  • Assess pediatric patients and monitor vital signs.
  • Continuous pediatric monitoring of oxygen saturation, HR, RR, BP.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, injections and other treatments as prescribed.
  • Maintain IV lines, drains, catheters, and other devices.
  • Assist with pediatric emergency procedures and interventions.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and support to families.

Job Description

The Intensive Care Nursing Staff – PICU provides specialized nursing care to critically ill infants, children, and adolescents in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The focuses on continuous pediatric monitoring, medication and fluid management, respiratory support, emergency care, infection control, family communication, and coordination with pediatric intensivists and the multidisciplinary team.

  • Assess pediatric patients and monitor vital signs and clinical condition.
  • Continuously monitor oxygen saturation, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, injections, and other treatments as prescribed.
  • Calculate and administer pediatric medication doses accurately.
  • Monitor patients receiving oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation.
  • Assist doctors with pediatric emergency procedures and interventions.
  • Respond promptly to pediatric cardiac and respiratory emergencies.
  • Maintain IV lines, central lines, drains, catheters, and other devices.
  • Monitor fluid balance, urine output, and nutritional requirements.
  • Assist with blood transfusions and closely monitor for adverse reactions.
  • Maintain accurate pediatric nursing records and medication charts.
  • Follow strict infection prevention and pediatric safety protocols.
  • Prepare emergency equipment and ensure essential PICU supplies are available.
  • Assist with specimen collection, suctioning, dressing, and other nursing procedures.
  • Provide age-appropriate hygiene, comfort, positioning, and pressure injury prevention.
  • Communicate patient condition and treatment updates during shift handovers.
  • Provide emotional support and appropriate guidance to parents and caregivers.
  • Coordinate with pediatricians, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and other specialists.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow hospital nursing policies.
