A Senior Resident - Obstetrics and Gynaecology is responsible for providing clinical care to women across obstetric and gynaecological services under consultant guidance. The includes patient assessment, antenatal and postnatal care, labour-room support, emergency management, procedures, documentation, and coordination with the multidisciplinary team.
- Assess patients presenting with obstetric and gynaecological conditions.
- Take relevant medical, obstetric, and gynaecological histories.
- Perform clinical examinations and monitor patient condition.
- Provide antenatal and postnatal care under consultant guidance.
- Monitor labour and assist with labour-room management.
- Assist consultants during normal and complicated deliveries.
- Identify obstetric emergencies and initiate appropriate management.
- Assist in managing conditions such as pre-eclampsia, postpartum haemorrhage, and other emergencies.
- Perform or assist with gynaecological procedures as per competence and supervision.
- Assist in surgical procedures and operative care.
- Review laboratory and imaging investigations.
- Participate in ward, labour-room, OPD, and emergency rounds.
- Coordinate with anaesthesia, paediatrics, nursing, and other departments.
- Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
- Provide appropriate counselling to patients and attendants.
- Support admission, referral, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Participate in clinical audits, case discussions, and academic activities.
- Guide junior residents and interns in routine clinical work.
- Follow infection-control and patient-safety protocols.
