Job summary

WSP is seeking a HV Cable Design Engineer in Ireland to join our Energy team. Based in Dublin, Naas or Belfast, you will lead hv/mv cable system design from concept through FEED and detailed design, coordinating with civil, protection and control groups.

You will review client deliverables, perform sizing and thermal studies, and guide multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant projects that support net-zero objectives. Occasional travel is expected.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical/Power) or equivalent.
• Experience with HV cable design, testing and manufacture.
• Familiarity with IEC standards and CIGRE/IEEE policies.
• Knowledge of EirGrid/ESB Networks HV/MV standards.
• Chartered Engineer status or in progress.
• Willingness to travel as projects dictate.
• Strong H&S awareness according to Construction regs.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV/MV cable system design from concept through FEED and detailed design.
• Act as technical authority across cable systems with other teams.
• Review owner’s engineer / client-side design deliverables.
• Prepare and review equipment and route specs, tender docs.
• Perform cable sizing, thermal, EMF/TMF studies.
• Coordinate designs across interfaces to meet programme and client specs.
• Identify and mitigate health and safety risks in designs.
• Lead design reviews and technical meetings with clients and partners.
• Support delivery at FATs and site inspections.
• Contribute to temporary works and installation methods.
• Ensure drawings and deliverables are timely and complete.
• Maintain relationships with clients and contractors.
