Job summary

WSP in Ireland is seeking a Technical Lead – Engineering Design Manager to spearhead the growth of our Electricity Transmission & Distribution services in Ireland, based in Dublin, Naas, or Belfast. You will lead design teams across HV/MV infrastructure and manage bids and proposals with major operators like ESB and EirGrid.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer or working towards chartered status.
• Experience in HV and MV Electrical Design related to Ireland’s Electricity Transmission System delivering projects for Transmission Service Operators (ESB, EirGrid) is preferred, including management of Owners engineer/construction monitoring/ supervision roles.
• Management Skills: Capable of leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including HV cable networks, Protection & Control, Substation Primary Design, Civil Engineering, and Overhead Line (OHL) Design.
• Project Management and Delivery: Proven track record in managing and delivering projects successfully.
• Bid Management and Proposals: Expertise in managing bids, writing proposals, and winning work.
• Client Interfacing: Strong client interfacing skills to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
• Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance relationships with Ireland’s Electricity Network Operators, winning work, and working on bids and proposals.
• Manage projects and project delivery, ensuring successful completion.
• Lead a design team focused on HV/MV infrastructure projects.
• Take ownership of design management activities including resource planning across FEED and detailed design.
• Coordinate inputs from all technical disciplines.
• Maintain alignment of design outputs with project objectives, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
• Provide technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle from concept through to commissioning.
• Oversee adherence to relevant standards and client specifications, monitoring/assurance for compliance.
• Deliver progress updates to senior stakeholders with risks, technical issues, mitigation strategies, and milestones.
• Define and control project scope, while managing design delivery during construction, including oversight of Owner’s Engineer and site supervision.
