Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets.

All roles on the project require key behaviours which support the Zero Harm objective, a questioning attitude, and drive to uphold the standards of safety and quality required by this prestigious project. A committed strong work ethic is essential at all levels.

All candidates are expected to demonstrate their knowledge and experience where possible directly related to the criteria required for the role. It is acknowledged that previous Nuclear based experience will not always be possible, as such supporting with project research and how individual skills may be transferable will be important.

There are opportunities to put together strategic people plans within the nuclear sector, work on wider company people projects, deliver an excellent first-class service to employees and ensure the administration and processes that engulf working life are implemented effectively and fairly

Summary of Role:

As a Project Engineer, you will provide support to ensure the effective delivery of activities in the programme to required safety, quality, time and cost targets, while recognising and managing the impacts of the programme on the wider Project. Your role will be to build strong relationships to ensure project success.

Accountabilities:

  • Driving the delivery of the contract or package activities to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements.
  • Developing and implementing strategies and plans in line with the overall programme execution plan (PEP), setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised, and executed.
  • Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or programme EP strategies within their contract or package of work.
  • Monitoring and manage the progress of the schedule – track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters.
  • Anticipating, managing, and resolving issues within the contract or package. Identifying risks and facilitating the resolution of all issues raised, developing, and updating the programme budget, and escalating any issues to the Delivery Manager.
  • Ensuring that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all project team members.

General Management:

  • Provide engineering and management resource to direct, supervise and support all project related operations.
  • Plan, develop and implement all activities associated with the efficient and profitable running of the assigned Projects.

Customer Service:

  • Maintain high standards of customer service.
  • Monitor, review and improve through the implementation of appropriate procedures and initiatives.
  • Maintain close contact with existing customers and assist the Senior Project Manager in the development of new customers as required to maintain suitable workload.

Standards:

  • Ensure that project operations are undertaken in compliance with all relevant standards and legislation through appropriate formal procedures.
  • Liaise with other support departmental personnel, if necessary, to obtain any advice that may be required.

Commercial:

  • Monitor individual project commercial performance against targets through regular review of job cost reports and detailed work in progress reports.
  • Provide detailed work in progress reports for discussion and monitoring by Senior Project Manager. Identify target shortfalls and discuss and carry out appropriate action to resolve any problems.
  • Assist in the preparation of the ongoing project account and final account. Ensure accounts are up to date as far as agreement of variations are concerned, monitor on at least a monthly basis to ensure variations are being agreed by others in a timely manners.
  • Present with project final accounts to the Senior Project Manager for agreement prior to final account being presented to the Customer for final certification.
  • Prepare, in conjunction with the Senior Quantity Surveyor, any sub-contract orders and the purchase of major material packages monitor any change orders and approve sub-contract payments.

Administration:

  • Ensure that project files, both hard copy and electronic versions, are set up in accordance with company procedures for each project. Carry out/ensure that filing is kept up to date and in the correct place.
  • Carry out a project administrative duties consistent with company requirements and standards.
  • Ensure that the day-to-day administrative duties associated with good project management are carried out and that the requirements and interface with other parts of the business responsible for general business administration are carried out in a timely and productive manner.

Personnel:

  • Communicate clearly and directly with other employees associated with the project, monitor performance productivity and quality as appropriate.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure that company standards for health and safety associated with all project activities are maintained as identified in the company health and safety policy.
  • When required, support and split all enquiries into any incidents and accidents associated with the Group activities.
  • Initiate and monitor all site health and safety inspections either by our in house H&S Manager or external resource. Ensure that any recommendations following on from a site H&S site visit are implemented.
  • Take personal responsibility for all project H&S issues ensure that when visiting site all paperwork associated with H&S issues such as tool box talk registers, site risk assessments, plant checks etc., are being carried out and are up to date.

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience:

Knowledge

  • Educated to ONC level (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering (Piped Systems, HVAC, Drainage Heating & Cooling) working towards HNC (Preferred)
  • Educated to Nuclear installation standards including safety critical systems
  • Working towards Professional Qualification in Project Management such as APM PMQ or other recognised qualification.
  • Track record of delivering projects in complex environments, from concept to handover, within a technically complex and dynamic environment, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
  • Have experience of working on heavily unionised sites and working alongside IR managers and Trade union representatives
  • Have experience in working with Qualified equipment products and services including supporting the EQ process
  • Have experience working alongside the QA team to ensure quality compliance including all records, audits and process
  • Have an understanding of nuclear safety culture and have experience working on projects where this forms the basis of the Health & Safety agenda

Additional Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Project Management and working knowledge and management experience of engineering and/or construction activities.
  • Able to demonstrate strong skills and experience in project management, financial management, change management and facilitation.
  • Proven successful experience in engaging multi-level stakeholders including contractors, consultants, and advisors.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.
  • Experience in the design, manufacturing and installation of mechanical equipment (Piped Systems, HVAC, Drainage Heating & Cooling), including Nuclear grade and Nuclear safety critical plant & equipment

Working Pattern of Attendance and Location(s):

  • From late 2025/early 2026 Hinkley Point C Construction Site, Wick Moore Drove, Nr Bridgwater, Somerset, TA5 1UD
  • 9-day fortnight
