Job description

This is a part time role 25 hours per week, fixed term from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027

Do you enjoy playing and having fun? Can you help children to do the same? We are looking for the right person to join our dedicated team of Playworkers based at the Adventure Playground in Wisbech, PE13 3HB which is run by Cambridgeshire County Council.

What will you be doing?

You'll play a key role in working as part of our Playworker team. You will be helping all the children in our Adventure Playground to have fun in a safe and friendly environment. You will be helping to plan engaging and purposeful play and recreation experiences that are appropriate to the ages and abilities of the children that attend.

You will ensure that children’s well‑being and safety is always at the forefront. You will be an important member of the team, ensuring that all aspects of each session are compliant with the conditions of the Ofsted Voluntary Register and Cambridgeshire County Council policies and procedures.

About you

We are seeking a fun, enthusiastic and committed individual who will work closely with the rest of the team and give children the best experiences while they are at the Adventure Playground. You will be motivated and have a flexible approach to adapt to the dynamic needs of each session, ensuring every child can participate in a wide range of activities. You will have knowledge (or be willing to learn) about the ‘Play Principles’ and basic child development.

You will be willing to undertake necessary training, including Child Protection and Paediatric First Aid. You will be supported to work towards a suitable Level 2 Playwork qualification.

This post is for 25 hours per week, annualised hours, all year round. Working days are Tuesday to Friday afternoons in term time, and longer days during school holidays. It will include some occasional evening work and three Saturdays per month. This contract is fixed term from 1 April 2026 - 31 March 2027.

Grade 3; £25,583 per annum (pro rata);

Actual salary £17,286 (£13.26 per hour)

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
