Community Operations Director
Hampstead Garden Suburb | Full-time, including some evenings/weekends
Senior-level salary (commensurate with experience)
Lead operations. Inspire people. Strengthen a landmark community.
HGSS is one of the UK’s largest and most vibrant Modern Orthodox synagogues, with a thriving membership, a high volume of events, and a national profile. We are now seeking a Community Operations Director to lead the day-to-day operations of the synagogue and help shape its next chapter.
Reporting to the Chair and working in close partnership with Rabbinic and lay leadership, this is a senior leadership role with oversight across programming, facilities, staffing, compliance, communications, finance, and member services.
Working with the Team
You’ll be supported by a dedicated and experienced professional team who care deeply about the community. The successful candidate will be someone who leads with presence and emotional intelligence—someone who builds trust quickly, inspires collaboration, and isn’t afraid to get involved in the day-to-day when needed. This role requires both strategic oversight and a practical, hands-on approach. The ability to engage, adapt, and bring people together around shared goals will be essential.
You Must Have
- Senior level experience in organisational, financial, and operational management
- A proven ability to lead and motivate teams, aligning them around strategy and delivery
- Prior professional experience within the Jewish community, with an operational understanding of Shabbat, Chagim, kosher facilities, lifecycle events, and communal rhythm
- A proactive, calm, and solutions-focused mindset
- High emotional intelligence and a people-first leadership style
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
