Client Services Delivery is the main operational delivery division within Social Security Scotland. Our teams deliver a wide range of benefits and services to those most in need across Scotland. This includes people on low incomes, disabled people, carers, young people entering the workplace and to help people heat their homes. The Business Support Team delivers high quality support to the senior management team and operational support across the division.

Assistant Business Support Manager Role

As an Assistant Business Support Manager you will provide dedicated support to the Deputy Director for Disability Operations and Deputy Director for Low Income Benefits and Operational Improvement. You will lead a team of Business Support Officers who provide dedicated support to the Heads of Client Services Delivery and our Heads of Operations.

Reporting to the B3 Business Support Manager this is a high profile role which is both varied and fast-paced. It is suitable for a confident individual who can be adaptable, flexible and able to work independently whilst leading a team. Ongoing political public and media interest means this is a challenging role requiring strong organisational skills to prioritise competing and numerous demands.

Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Line manage a team of up to ten Business Support Officers. Lead and foster a performance culture where colleagues in your team care are curious and contribute to meeting performance objectives. This includes quality assurance performance outcomes and attendance management.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong working relationships with the Deputy Director and Senior Management Team. Play an active part in wider Agency Business Support Network.
  • Business Support Development: Support the Business Support Manager to ensure the Business Support Team are equipped with the necessary tools, knowledge and skills to provide an effective operational business management function.
  • Corporate Assurance: Coordinate activities with corporate teams and support the Governance processes by working with colleagues across the organisation.
  • Operational Reporting: Support the division's response to key business activities such as Audit Scotland working with the Parliamentary Team to support ministerial briefings and First Ministers Questions.
  • Ad hoc duties: Prioritise and complete varied ad hoc tasks to a high standard within deadlines.

Working Pattern

Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role. We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in one of our Social Security Scotland offices. There is an expectation of a minimum 2 days per week in your assigned location which will be Agnes Husband House Dundee or 220 High Street Glasgow. This role is only available to existing permanent civil servants who have successfully completed their probation period within Social Security Scotland or the broader Scottish Government.
