Job summary

Band 5 Speech & Language Therapist(Community Neurology Service)

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to gain skills in specialist community neuro-rehabilitation to cover maternity leave. We are looking for a dynamic, professional and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly, supportive and innovative team.

You will become a member of a well-established multidisciplinary team which includes Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists and Rehabilitation Support Workers. We offer Early Supported Discharge, Community Stroke and Neuro Rehab pathways within the London Borough of Newham. Our team delivers therapy in a range of settings, including patient's homes, nursing homes, via telehealth, or appropriate community locations.

We have strong links to the consultant-led teams in the local stroke and neuro rehab services and provide an in-reach service to facilitate a safe and timely discharge for our patients.

We work closely with the research community and actively participate in current research projects. We also have in-house links with the Stroke Association and regularly work with voluntary services, for example, our longstanding local aphasia group.

Main duties of the job

As a Speech and Language Therapist in the team you will be well supported both managerially and clinically through regular supervision, individual performance review and regular in service trainings, both uni- and multidisciplinary. We are committed to evidence-based practice and actively encourage continuing professional development.

As a newly qualified professional you will be supported to develop your skills in management of acquired dysphagia and communication difficulties. You will have the opportunity to supervise students on placement and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.

If you would like further information about this role then please contact Claudia Bull, Clinical Lead Community Neuro Service, Victoria Bedford, Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Laura Hardy, Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist on 020 8586 6464.
