The ideal candidate will have experience working with neurodiverse young people or adults, be flexible, committed to making a difference, and able to work under pressure. The role requires effective communication skills and the ability to work with vulnerable young people, engaging employers to offer placements and work opportunities.

Shaw Trust supports young people across London, funded by Local Authorities, Schools, and SFA, providing information, advice, guidance, and support to help young people assess their attributes and circumstances, plan to meet learning goals, support implementation, and review progress.

Job Description

1. Provides individualised support for interns at work placements or competitive jobs, including job coaching, identifying placements, assistive technology, etc.
2. Attends host business inductions to ensure student understanding and learning.
3. Works with managers and co-workers to educate on disability awareness.
4. Communicates regularly with parents.
5. Visits students and provides feedback to team members.
6. Meets daily with tutors to discuss student progress.
7. Collaborates with business liaison, managers, and peer mentors to discuss student strengths, challenges, and progress.
8. Plans events such as inductions, open days, and graduations with tutors.
9. Participates in marketing activities for the business and community, including newsletters, websites, tours, presentations, and social media.
10. Communicates effectively with all stakeholders involved in student training.
11. Implements job coaching plans with students and relevant parties.
12. Works with employers, families, and other professionals to resolve training and employment issues.
13. Trains students in grooming, hygiene, communication, interview skills, and behavior for employment success.
14. Provides travel training if necessary.
15. Coordinates with tutors on student success at work rotations or jobs.
16. Participates in decision-making to identify and implement training strategies.
17. Adheres to standards at work sites to promote productivity and efficiency.
18. Completes all required paperwork accurately.
19. Applies for Access to Work allowances for students.
20. Provides basic information on benefits and work-related expenses.
21. Ensures safety and welfare responsibilities are met.
22. Stays informed about current trends, labor market information, and initiatives in education.
23. Works as part of a team to ensure student education and welfare.
24. Understands and addresses each student’s learning and social/emotional needs.
25. Arranges access to stimulating learning environments both in and out of the workplace.
26. Utilizes appropriate support methods and resources for students.
27. Willing to undertake training such as first aid if needed.

Person Specification

• NVQ Level 6 or equivalent in Careers Education and Guidance, Youth and Community Work, or Social Care (or willing to work towards).
• Level 3 Education and Training Award (or willing to work towards).
• Strong communication skills in verbal, written, and IT tools, with diverse groups including managers, professionals, young people, and parents.
• Entrepreneurial, dynamic, and innovative in service delivery.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• Experience working with teams to foster a positive culture.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key organizations.
• Well-organized with good workload management skills.
• Proven track record of achieving KPIs and outcomes for young people.
• Ability to build strong partnerships with other organizations.
• Experience developing new services and generating additional income or contracts.
• Credibility and confidence with clients, managers, staff, and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of legislation, policies, and guidance related to Children and Young People's Services and SEND.
