A caregiving service provider in York seeks a Waking Night Carer to provide essential support for a young person with complex medical needs. The role requires hands-on care during night shifts, managing pain, and supporting daily routines. Ideal candidates will have experience with additional needs, remain calm under pressure, and maintain accurate records. Competitive hourly wages up to £17.50, with part-time and full-time options available.
Charlie’s Waking Night Carer will provide essential, hands-on support throughout the shift, nights are often unpredictable due to his dystonia, and he rarely manages to get a full night’s sleep. The Waking Night Carer will focus on managing pain levels, frequent repositioning, soothing massages, and personal care to support Charlie remain as comfortable as possible. You will be attentive and respond promptly. The Waking Night Carer will be in Charlie’s room, by his side all night. Of course, when he is settled and asleep you are welcome to read, study or rest. The morning routine typically starts at 6.30am, and Mum or Charlie’s day support workers will assist you to ensure Charlie is ready for the day ahead. Accurate record keeping, along with a detailed handover completed before the end of every shift is required.
Meet Charlie – a fun, sociable, and happy 15-year-old with a love of football and gaming. He is a wheelchair user and has complex medical needs requiring 24/7 care, including oral suctioning, daily chest physio, oxygen administration, and nutrition via PEG/J-tube. He communicates primarily through Eye Gaze technology and some signing. Charlie enjoys being part of a lively family environment.

Wage: up to £17.50 per hour. Shift pay: £210.00 per weekend. All figures quoted gross. Nearest station: York Railway Station.
