Job summary

Ocean GROUP is seeking an organised and technically confident Workshop Controller for our busy Service Department in the United Kingdom. The role focuses on planning workshop activity, maximizing technician productivity, and delivering exceptional customer service from booking to handover.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience in franchised dealership or automotive workshop.
  • IT literacy and confidence using workshop systems.
  • Strong communication, planning and problem solving.
  • Ability to motivate, coach and support a technical team.
  • Experience as a fully qualified Vehicle Technician.
  • Experience in Workshop Controller, Workshop Supervisor or senior technician role.
  • Knowledge of manufacturer warranty standards and dealership processes.

  • Assign technicians to tasks balancing skill set, workload and productivity.
  • Liaise with Service Advisors, Parts and other departments for smooth customer journey.
  • Monitor vehicle progress and inform customers of changes or delays.
  • Drive technician performance, productivity and quality standards.
  • Support, coach and develop technicians to meet daily objectives.
  • Ensure repair documentation, job cards and vehicle health checks are completed accurately.
  • Maintain warranty standards, workshop processes and Health & Safety requirements.

Job description

We are looking for an organised, technically confident and customer-focused Workshop Controller to join our busy Service Department. This is a key role within our Aftersales operation, ensuring workshop activity is planned effectively, technician productivity is maximised, and customers receive an excellent standard of service from booking through to vehicle handover.

Your role
  • Plan and control incoming workshop work to ensure jobs are allocated efficiently and completed on time.
  • Assign technicians to tasks, balancing skill set, workload and productivity requirements.
  • Liaise closely with Service Advisors, Parts and other departments to support a smooth customer journey.
  • Monitor vehicle progress through the workshop and help ensure customers are kept informed of any changes or delays.
  • Drive technician performance, productivity and quality standards in line with business objectives.
  • Support, coach and develop technicians to help them achieve their daily objectives.
  • Ensure repair documentation, job cards and vehicle health checks are completed accurately.
  • Maintain manufacturer warranty standards, workshop processes and Health & Safety requirements at all times.
About You

You will be a strong communicator with excellent organisational skills and the confidence to lead a busy workshop environment. You will be comfortable working under pressure, making decisions quickly and maintaining high standards of quality, compliance and customer service.

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience within a franchised dealership or similar automotive workshop environment.
  • Good IT literacy and confidence using workshop or service systems.
  • Strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to motivate, coach and support a technical team.
  • Previous experience as a fully qualified Vehicle Technician.
  • Previous experience in a Workshop Controller, Workshop Supervisor or senior technician role.
  • Knowledge of manufacturer warranty standards and dealership processes.
Rewards

Your hard work will be rewarded with a basic salary of £35,000 with an earning potential of up to £45,000, company pension, 22 days paid holiday per year plus bank holidays and training at the state-of-the-art BMW Academy.

Hours of work are 45 hours a week Mon - Fri 8am - 5.30pm with Saturdays 1 in 4.

Relevant experience in the automotive industry, including previous workshop control or technician roles.
