Responsibilities

As a Weld Training Officer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll deliver training and qualifications to apprentices, experienced welders, and future talent, ensuring compliance with ISO, ASME, and DefStan standards.

Day-to-day, you’ll be central to developing the next generation of highly skilled welders who support critical defence projects across surface fleet, submarine platforms, and site facilities.

  • Overseeing the full welder training and qualification process.
  • Conducting visual weld inspections and coordinating NDE and destructive testing.
  • Developing and delivering training programmes across multiple welding processes.
  • Ensuring all documentation meets quality and compliance standards.
  • Supporting welders at all levels to achieve certification and excellence.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential Experience
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes: MMA, FCAW, MIG/MAG, and TIG.
  • Excellent communication skills and computer literacy.
  • Meticulous attention to detail when presenting technical information.
  • Sound understanding of welding techniques and associated challenges.
  • Knowledge of quality control and documentation requirements.
Qualifications
  • City & Guilds Craft Apprenticeship in Fabrication/Engineering or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undertake further training, including CSWTO certification.
  • Commitment to completing CSWIP Weld Instructor courses and exams.
  • CSWIP 3.0 Visual Weld Inspection - Desirable.
