Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced senior registered nurse to join a very busy acute cardiology unit (ACCU) based at Liverpool University Hospital - Aintree as a Band 7 Ward Nurse Manager.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate substantive experience at band 6/7 level and experience caring for complex patients within the cardiology specialty. The post holder will work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and will provide leadership and development for the current nursing team.

Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate the ward on a day-to-day basis, including planning, allocation and evaluation of work carried out by teams or individuals.
  • Provide specialist knowledge to all nursing staff on the ward and promote a critical, analytical approach to the delivery of nursing care.
  • Review and update all procedures and protocols relating to patient care as required.
  • Develop methods for identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of patient care through facilitation of best practice and clinical benchmarking.
  • Respect and respond to the Customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients/clients.
  • Explore and undertake expanded practice to optimise patient care within the specialist area, in line with Trust policies.
  • Exercise strong and effective leadership, acting as an exemplary role model.
  • Maintain adequate staff cover and skill mix on the ward through effective use of staffing rotas.
  • Support the implementation of the Trust’s Strategy for Nursing at ward/department level.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Substantive experience at band 6/7 level, with experience caring for complex cardiology patients.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to lead and develop the current team in collaboration with senior nursing and organisational staff.
  • Registered nurse compliant with NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Motivation and skills to lead, role-model, empower and support clinical teams; capable of clinical leadership, teaching, staff development and recruitment.
