Job summary

A leading end-of-life charity in Exeter is seeking compassionate individuals to become Companion Volunteers at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. In this rewarding role, volunteers will provide emotional and practical support to people at the end of life. A commitment of 3 hours per week is required, with responsibilities including offering companionship and reporting on visits. Ideal candidates are empathetic and patient, wishing to contribute significantly to the community. Training and support will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.

Become a Companion Volunteer with Marie Curie at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital

Marie Curie has a Hospital Companion service, offering compassionate individuals the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people at the end of life. Volunteers provide emotional and practical support at Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital

Each week, you'll support a different person - offering emotional care, companionship, and a calming presence when it's needed most. You'll also help shape this service, contributing to its development and impact within the hospital and wider community.

Availability

3 hours per week - Mondays - Fridays 8am - 6pm

What you'll do
  • Spend time with someone each week
  • Offer emotional support and companionship
  • Share helpful info and connect families to local services
  • Help shape a brand-new service that truly matters
  • Complete a basic report after each visit
  • Participate in regular wellbeing sessions, team meetings, and refresher training
