Vocational Studies Teacher – Alternative Provision – East Birmingham

An Alternative Provision in East Birmingham is seeking an experienced and inspirational Vocational Studies Teacher to join their team, teaching small classes of students with SEMH needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for a Vocational Studies Teacher who is passionate about engaging young people who have faced barriers to education and helping them develop practical skills for the future.


As a Vocational Studies Teacher, you will deliver hands‑on, engaging lessons to small groups, supporting students to build confidence, resilience, and employability skills. Students may present with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and gaps in learning, so strong behaviour management and the ability to build positive relationships are essential. You will be part of a supportive staff team with a clear structure and strong leadership in place.


Job role


  • Teaching vocational subjects to small classes of students with SEMH needs

  • Planning and delivering practical, engaging lessons that meet individual needs

  • Supporting students to develop life skills, employability skills, and independence

  • Managing behaviour positively and consistently in line with school policies

  • Working closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and leadership

  • Monitoring progress and adapting learning to support re‑engagement with education


The ideal candidate will have


  • QTS or relevant teaching qualification (or significant experience teaching vocational subjects)

  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs, alternative provision, or PRU settings

  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to teaching

  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people
