An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Vehicle Technician based at Essex Police workshops in Boreham near Chelmsford.
This is a challenging role that requires the successful candidate to have a minimum of 5 years experience of working in a vehicle workshop environment. It is essential that you can evidence a good understanding of vehicle maintenance, electrical systems, diagnostics and health and safety.
In this role you will be required to undertake the full duties of a Vehicle Technician carrying out service, maintenance and repairs on car and light commercial vehicles in a safe and efficient manner using such skills and knowledge as required. You will also carry out safety inspections, diagnostic testing and problem solving on a wide range of fleet vehicles and Police vehicle equipment. You will complete documentation work including job sheets, service sheets, parts required requests & electronic inputting of labour for time taken to complete each job. In addition to this you will also be required to modify all types of fleet vehicles, fitting specialised Police equipment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are an essential part of the role.
Essex Police offer agile working which allows some flexibility in terms of work arrangements. Due to the operational nature of this role, it will be workshop based within a workshop team.
You will prioritise vehicles and maintenance ensuring completion in accordance with procedures in operation to the standard and quality required, ensuring warranty claims are identified for recovery from manufacturers.
Experience of service, maintenance and diagnostics on a wide range of vehicles together with and a proven track record is essential and should be underpinned by a recognised qualification in vehicle repair and maintenance, equivalent to City and Guilds 2 and 3 in Motor Vehicle Studies or equivalent NVQ level 3.
