Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join the Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure UK data protection compliance, advise business units and senior leaders, support the DPO, and lead initiatives from breaches to regulatory engagement.

You will maintain ROPA, assist DPIAs, and manage DSARs while collaborating across the organisation to improve privacy controls and reduce risk. A proactive, precise communicator is essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance or Legal functions.
• Excellent understanding of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Able to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Proficient in researching, analyzing, and presenting regulatory information.
• Able to challenge views and interpret guidance with accuracy and proportionality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, with influencing/negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK data protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment, oversight, and reporting of personal data breaches and MI reporting.
• Act as main contact for DSARs, complaints, and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with ICO on complaints and regulatory inquiries.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance across the business to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement to enhance data protection compliance and efficiency.
