Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will advise on UK data protection laws, support DPIAs, and manage data breach reporting, working with senior leaders and regulators.

You will maintain ROPA, handle DSARs, and collaborate across the business to improve privacy controls. The role requires strong regulatory knowledge and influential communication skills.

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance/Legal functions at specialist level.
• Excellent understanding of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Demonstrable skills in researching, analysing and interpreting regulatory information.
• Comfort with challenging views and interpreting guidance with accuracy and proportionality.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement, with influencing and negotiation ability.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Support maintenance of Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches, incl. MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a key contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on complaints and regulatory inquiries, ensuring robust investigations and responses.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance and stakeholders across the business to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and efficiency.
