Job description
Job Summary

An exciting opportunity for a fixed‑term Trust Doctor post supporting the Older Persons Unit (OPU) through winter. This is an ST1‑2 trust doctor in Geriatric Medicine, depending on previous experience. The post lasts 5 months.

Main Duties

You will support OPU outliers with our team of geriatric consultants and therapists, manage inpatients under geriatrician supervision, and arrange rehabilitation and discharge as part of the multidisciplinary team. Working days are Monday to Friday, 08:00‑18:00 (40hrs/week). You will have strong communication skills and regularly liaise with MDT, patients and relatives.

Qualifications

Clinical Experience
  • Experience in inpatient geriatric medicine
  • Experience in MDT and discharge planning
Desired Experience
  • Completion of CMT training or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in geriatric medicine including subspecialty and outpatient care
  • Experience working at registrar level on medical take
Clinical Skills
  • Ability to assess acutely unwell, frail older people and initiate appropriate management
  • Strong communication skills with older patients, including those with cognitive impairment, and their next of kin
  • Sound understanding of the medicolegal framework of geriatric medicine
Preferred Clinical Skills
  • Higher level subspecialty skills in geriatric medicine
  • Ability to perform practical procedures independently (e.g., lumbar puncture, Epley test, Hall‑Pike manoeuvre)
