Overview
Applications are invited for the post of Fellow in Clinical Simulation and Anaesthetics at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. This is a full‑time or job‑share position within the Division of Anaesthesia and Theatres. The candidate should have completed RCOA Basic Level Training in anaesthesia and hold a Primary FRCA qualification.
Key Responsibilities
- Co‑ordination of the Trust Simulation program in conjunction with the Trust Simulation leads.
- Responsibility for Academic Foundation doctors in Simulation posts.
- Assist current simulation training leads in the delivery of simulation training across the Trust.
- Demonstrate and teach technical aspects of operating simulators to faculty members and others.
- Run and debrief simulation training sessions in partnership with the simulation technician.
- Run clinical skills training using part‑task trainers.
- Participate actively in the Peninsula Simulation Network.
- Direct Anaesthetic Crisis Resource Management, Managing Emergencies in Paediatric Anaesthesia (MEPA) and Anaesthesia Novice Training courses with support from the Trust Simulation lead.
- Assist simulation technician and secretary with maintenance of simulation databases and educational resources.
- Audit simulation activity within the Trust.
- Author publications and lead projects in simulation.
- Complete PGClinEd if chosen.
- Deliver regular simulation training sessions in the Simulation Suite and at multiple hospital sites.
- Take part in the senior anaesthetic or obstetric trainee on‑call rota, alongside ST‑level anaesthetic trainees.
- Supervise junior anaesthetic residents and provide cover for the Intensive Care Unit as required.
- Deliver approximately one to two sessions of elective clinical anaesthesia each week.
- Expand the Trust clinical simulation facility; time is set‑aside for audit and/or research in clinical simulation under supervision of the Trust simulation lead.
Anaesthesia Duties
- Operate surgical lists across all specialties with a patient mix suitable for solo practice by a trainee at CT2‑ST3 level or above.
- Join a rota for resident cover of CT level or ST level anaesthetic or obstetric anaesthetic service.
- Supervise junior anaesthetic residents, cover ICU and support obstetric anaesthetic resident as required.
Qualifications and Training
- RCOA Basic Level Training in anaesthesia completed.
- Primary FRCA qualification.
- Funding is available for a related PGCE.
- Completion of PGClinEd is an additional requirement if chosen.
