Job summary

AECOM is seeking enthusiastic apprentices to join our Traffic Engineering team. You’ll gain practical experience across the project lifecycle, working with engineers and designers on safer, more sustainable transport networks.

As a Traffic Engineering Apprentice, you’ll assist with design drawings, traffic data analysis and the development of schemes from concept to detailed design, with on‑the‑job learning and formal training to achieve a recognised qualification.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics and English.
• Three A-Levels (or equivalent) including Mathematics and a physical science, where required for Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship.
• Interest in traffic, transport or civil engineering and a desire to build a career in the industry.
• Aptitude for technical software, engineering design and drawing, with an interest in AutoCAD or 3D modelling software.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Interest in transport, sustainability and developing safer streets and communities.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative when needed.
• Enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Creative and practical approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation of design drawings using CAD and other software.
• Supporting development and delivery of traffic engineering schemes from concept to detailed design.
• Helping to collect, analyse and interpret traffic data.
• Assisting with highway, street and traffic engineering design including signage and road markings.
• Supporting traffic management and traffic signal design activities.
• Participating in site visits and inspections to gather information.
• Assisting with technical reports, calculations and presentation materials.
• Working with engineers and other professionals across multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintaining project records and providing general project administration.
• Developing understanding of engineering standards and industry best practice.
