Job summary

AECOM is seeking Engineering Apprentices to join our Highways and Streets practice in Belfast. You’ll work on live projects across the project lifecycle, from concept to implementation, under guidance from experienced engineers.

You’ll gain structured training in traffic engineering and design, with exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D and BIM processes, developing practical solutions for pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles and the public realm.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics and English.
• Three A-Levels (or equivalent, such as a BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering), including Mathematics and a physical science at grade C or above, where required for the Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship.
• An interest in traffic, transport or civil engineering and a desire to build a career in the industry.
• An aptitude for technical software, engineering design and drawing, with an interest in tools such as AutoCAD or 3D modelling software.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• An interest in transport, sustainability and the development of safer, more accessible streets and communities.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate initiative when working independently.
• Enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• A creative and practical approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Support the development of designs and technical solutions through different project stages.
• Attend site visits, meetings and workshops, and work collaboratively with clients and design professionals.
• Receive training in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other design software, with BIM/digital engineering exposure.
• Take on increasing responsibility for project tasks and technical deliverables as experience grows.
• Gain experience across projects including highway and street design, junction/intersection design, cycle lanes, BRT, greenways and streetscape.
