Job Summary

Thorax Centre, St. Bartholomew's Hospital An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the thoracic surgery team at St. Bartholomew's Hospital. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the expansion of specialist services following the recent commissioning of the national pectus service; and supporting the lung cancer and lung volume reduction surgical pathways.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care in line with national standards and manage pre and post-operative patient pathways.
  • Deliver nursing expertise across clinical settings including outpatients, supporting patients and families through treatment and follow up.
  • Participate in service development, quality and safety initiatives, audit and research.
  • Manage a patient caseload and coordinate care throughout the patient journey.
  • Provide support for the national pectus service, lung cancer post-op follow-up clinic and lung volume reduction service.
  • Spend at least 50% of time in clinical practice.
Qualifications
  • Degree level RN.
  • Post registration course or experience in cardiothoracic/onco.
  • Teaching / assessment / mentoring qualification.
  • Leadership/management course.
  • Relevant master's level or equivalent or working towards a masters (desirable).
  • Advanced skills in physical assessment (desirable).
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification (desirable).
  • ILS (desirable).
Experience
  • Extensive post registration experience in specialist setting.
  • Evidence of specialist thoracic knowledge.
  • Experience in team management.
  • Experience in coordinating and delivering teaching and training.
  • Able to demonstrate theoretical and clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Experience in prioritising and managing own caseload.
